A poem by Halima Ahmad

Please join me in wishing a very happy birthday to the beautiful Uzbek poet Halima Ahmad. May she be blessed with good health, joy, and prosperity!

To celebrate her day, I am delighted to share one of her touching poems:
I wandered through gardens to seek my own soul,
My senses were weary, my spirit was old.
The trees turned aside, as if closing their eyes,
As though I had vanished, forgotten, and cold.

I wished health and peace to the grass in its sneeze,
Then faltered, unwell, in a silence profound.
The blossoms broke open in laughter of spring,
As though my misfortune were joy to the ground.
Am I still living, or faded away?
Is the cry in my throat but my spirit’s song?
If life is with me, why does death weep near?
If I am gone, why does life dance along?
