What writer-in-residents write about us?

“Day 21 of my travels by- sitting on a small, but lush and luxuriously green patch of land on the soil of a country called Uzbekistan.

Tomorrow I will be gone but my last 17 days here in this country have given me some of the richest experiences of my life. I came here for two reasons:

A: to trace my fathers’s footsteps during his time as a POW of WW I and B as a member of a WRITERS Residency Program organized by a most unique son and citizen of Uzbekistan, Azam Obidov.

Here I am sitting in his garden, giving thanks to this life-changing experience of meeting with fellow writers from different countries such as Turkey, Slovakia, Hungary, Vietnam, Bulgaria and of course Uzbekistan. We all love words, we love language – be it our own or one we have acquired for whatever reason – languages connect us, open doors to better understanding and cooperation between us as individuals and on a much larger scale between our countries.

We will all return to our homes – richer, deeply touched by the experiences of friendship, artistry, music, food, creativity and especially the ultimate form of hospitality we have experienced here in this country.

Now, some 55-60 years later, I have come to understand why my father felt so connected to this country. What is the saying: “Good things take time!”

I think it is time that the world learns more about this incredible country, its traditions, its fascinating history and learn especially from its hospitality.

We would not have experienced this country as we did without the incredible effort of coordinating the travel, accommodation, and so many eonserful chances to meet with local people, especially our host’s own incredibly supportive family.

I would like to thank Azam Obidov with all my (very emotional) heart for this most extra-ordinary Writers-in-Residence Program. Like the lushness of the grass in his garden which i enjoyed only momentarily – may my gratitude and appreciation be echoed in the recognition and acknowledgement that he deserves for the monumental effort he has made – for us and for his country.

The most sincere Katta rahmat Azam Obidov and all the wonderful people I was able to meet while I have been in this country.

Dear All,
????????

I feel like I’ve fallen in love with this country and its people. ????

Especially, I feel a deep connection with the women here — something I’ve never felt anywhere else.
Thank you, Azam, and your unique family, for allowing this to happen. ????

Thanks to every member of the group for all the powerful emotions — they move me so deeply, I find myself crying even now.
Big hugs to all the angels who live in your hearts.
May you be blessed by them. ????????

And please — write what you were meant to write.
Everything happens for a reason…

This tour, this country, your customs, your faces, your traditions —
they are as colorful and vibrant as the traditional dress of Uzbekistan. ????????
