This statement brings tears to my eyes and joy to my soul. Reading these words, I’m filled with a quiet sense of fulfillment. Many have said this is the kind of work that ministries, unions, or official institutions in Uzbekistan should be doing — but deep down, I know they couldn’t have created something quite like this.
What we’ve built together — with sincerity, dedication, and the spirit of true cultural exchange — goes beyond formality or structure. It’s a labor of love, shared by a passionate team and embraced by open-hearted people from around the world.
I’m simply grateful that we were able to carry out this meaningful mission — not with resources or backing, but with belief, friendship, and poetry at the core.

A Statement from International Participants of Uzbekistan’s Only Independent Writer & Artist Residency
We, the international participants of Uzbekistan’s only independent writer and artist residency, are writing to express our profound gratitude for the transformative experience we’ve had — and to urge immediate support for this unique cultural initiative.
Before arriving, many of us knew little about Uzbekistan’s literature, culture, history, and renowned hospitality. But after just two weeks immersed in this residency, we leave not only as friends of Uzbekistan — but as passionate promoters and unofficial cultural ambassadors of this beautiful country.
This program opened our eyes and hearts. Through intimate exchanges with local communities, artists, and scholars, we have fallen in love with Uzbekistan — its people, its mountains and skies, its artistry, colors, cuisine, and especially its warmth. Some of us found deep personal resonance and connection unlike anywhere else in the world.
It was not only an artistic retreat — it was a life-changing cultural revelation.
This residency has accomplished what no tourist brochure, academic conference, or government initiative could. It has turned visitors into lifelong allies of Uzbek culture. It is a rare and powerful example of cultural diplomacy at its best — and it exists without any official support.
We call on the government of Uzbekistan and patriotic private sponsors to support this one-of-a-kind project immediately. Without such backing, this vital platform for cultural exchange is at risk of being closed.
This initiative has been passionately founded and organized by Azam Abidov, a poet, translator, and cultural advocate who has built thousands of international creative connections through his literary journeys. His tireless efforts have brought the world to Uzbekistan — and taken Uzbekistan to the world.
